Important Life Lessons Learned From Video Games

Important Life Lessons Learned From Video Games

You simply can’t neglect that video games have a big impact on the life of every gamer in many positive ways. There are definitely some negative things as well, but when you look at the big picture, or if you’ve come to the point where you want to focus on life more and glance back through the years when you played video games, you can see many life lessons learned from playing video games. The balance is surprisingly a positive one, and this article focuses on the most important life lessons that every video game player can relate to.

We are not talking about things like the best food is in abandoned buildings, or you can sleep in a puddle of mud and wake up fresh, but the lessons that can be used in real life.

  • Being a Team Player – Everybody wants to be the shining star, and the further back you go with your life, the more you realise that you’ve been working on it more than working for the team. But throughout the years, and the games that we played, we realise that that’s not how the game works, and it’s most certainly not how life works. We learn that sometimes we need to take the supporting role, that there are some tasks that simply can’t be done alone, and video game players are very aware of this as it is one of the most important lessons learned by playing them. United we stand, divided we fall!
  • No Obstacles? Wrong way! – Just like in video games, life works this way. If you are walking a path and things are too easy, you are not walking towards your ultimate goal. There will always be something standing in your way, and as soon as you get out of the teenage years you will feel it on your skin, but why not have the advantage in real life learned from video games that this is truly the case? One additional lesson that every gamer learned is that if the path is right and the obstacles are there, we can focus our stubbornness in the right way and never to give up on our dreams!
  • Take advantage of the Pause Button – There is no magical pause button in real life, although we would give all the fortune in the world to create it. Playing hard core video games taught me to take advantage of the pause button, to take a rest, to relax and see the world. See everything that’s moving next to us, but we are unable to notice it because we are focused only on one thing. Magical things are passing by – grab them and make them a part of your life!
  • Explore the Map – All of us, at some point, have taken the wrong path in video games. We learned that nothing bad can happen out of this and that we can learn new things, meet new people and many new adventures. Well, guess what? It’s the same in real life. Meeting new people, exploring new places and thinking outside the box can lead to many new wonderful things. We learned that we should always tend to get out of our comfort zone, as it will always bring us new, magical things!
Best 5 Movies Inspired by Video Games

Best 5 Movies Inspired by Video Games

Video games are known, and often judged to be underwhelming and sometimes they lack a story and quality. There are some people that simply would love to experience the amazing stories while sitting down and not moving a finger, with the amazing graphics and sound effects that the movies can offer. For these kinds of people, we have a list of five movies that are inspired by video games.

Silent Hill – Silent Hill may as well be the one of the terrifying game series ever to be developed, bringing psychologically terrifying and reality-bending stories. Some of the most odd-looking creatures invented by the creativity of the human mind could be found here, and to turn this into a movie seemed to be an immense task. But director Christoph Gans took things in his hands and decided to make this Konami game into the perfect video game movie, and so he did!
Warcraft: The Beginning – An action Fantasy film made by Duncan Jones that is inspired by the best MMORPG game and one of the best-rated video games of all time – World of Warcraft. This long-anticipated game made its debut in 2016 and received astonishing feedback from the viewers.

The film is set in the world of Azeroth and the main encounter in it is the encounter between the humans and the orcs. Several amazing locations are included in the movie that is already seen in the game.
Assassin’s Creed – Justin Kurzel definitely made one of the best video game inspired movies with the Assassin’s Creed. The game is perfectly explained in the movie, whistle using some of the latest technology that Hollywood can offer, it made it look outstandingly awesome. The story is the same – the everlasting battle between the Templars and the eternal pursuit of the Apple of Eden. The movie has an amazing outcome and ending, and it is definitely the movie we would recommend you watch.
Resident Evil – Paul W. S. Anderson and Jeremy Bolt made an outstanding connection between their movie and the Japanese Capcom game with the same name. What is strange is that the feedback is constantly negative about this game, but the six series of Resident Evil are grossed over $1.233 billion worldwide, which means there are a lot of people watching it. These science fiction action—horror movie series are definitely on the top 5 list of best video game inspired movies.

Mortal Kombat – Seems like Paul W. S. Anderson found the recipe for successful game inspired movies, as he directed this 1995 fighting film. This is a Fantasy Martial Arts movie inspired by the game that shifted the boundaries of violence in video games. The plot is same as the theme in the game – a tournament where contestants from Earth and the Outworld are fighting for the future of the Earth. If the Outworld competitors win, Shao Kahn will be given the right to invade, and most likely conquer Earth, so it is the Earth’s competitors to determine the faith of the planet.

First Steps in the Video Gaming Industry – The Brown Box

First Steps in the Video Gaming Industry – The Brown Box

The Brown Box

Let’s travel back in time to 1960s when the world’s, especially the United States’ homes, were overflown with televisions. This, at the time, new technology clicked the light bulb on top of Ralph Baer’s head, as he had an idea to use the technology and make a machine that will trigger the people’s interaction with the TV instead of just passively watching it.

While working for Sanders Associates Inc., Ralph, together with his co-workers Bill Harrison and Bill Rusch, were searching for a way to play games on the televisions, and they created several devices that were used for multiplayer gaming. The result, in 1969, was the “Brown Box”, which was a prototype for the first multiplayer video game system. They licensed the system to Magnavox, and three years later, in 1972, Magnavox Odyssey was released and sold across the United States and the rest of the World, creating a brand-new product which paved the way for all the other video game systems that came after it, and bringing gaming industry to a new level. This revolutionary move was supported by many people, funded by several organisations and companies, as it was obvious that something big can come out of this. The first Magnavox Odyssey a.k.a. the Brown Box was sold with two controllers, additional light gun that was already invented as an extra joystick, and 16 switches for the users to select which game they wanted to play.

The Chase

Baer had the idea, and with many helping hands, he made that idea a reality – but he needed a platform to work on to test the new devices that he, together with his team, was creating. The light shines on The Chase, which is officially the 1st game that was played on a video game console. This was a simple, two-player game that could be displayed on a standard television where two dots chased each other around the screen. He presented the idea to the director or R&D Herbert Campman, who decided to fund and join the project, sensing that something great will happen.

The Ping-Pong

Things were looking sharp at the company, and as every company, the guys were looking for new, innovative things. Not soon after The Chase was invented, a third, computer controlled dot was brought on screen, allowing the developers of The Brown Box to create the Ping Pong game. I am sure you’ve all seen it – Two controllers were required to play it, and the players were moving up and down while the ball, controlled by the computer, was travelling left and right. The goal was to touch the ball and bounce it back to the opponent, with “goals” counted at the top. After this very first computer controlled dot was invented, it was easy for Baer and his team to continue and invent new games where the computer had a role in it.
