Polaroid may have made their name in cameras and film, but the company has been transitioning over to consumer electronics in general and mobile devices in particular.
In fact, the French company brought along a couple of Windows Phones at MWC 2015.
These are part of its new lineup of smartphones that Polaroid plans on bringing to market this spring, a mix of Android and at least two Windows Phones. The Windows Phone powered hardware is squarely in the midrange category, though, so don’t get your hopes up for a premium device.
A Spanish blog managed to catch these two devices on camera during Mobile World Congress, as the company actually brought along prototypes at the event.
First of these is the Advance 4, a 4-inch handset with a WVGA (800 x 480 pixels) resolution display. On the back is a 5 megapixel camera, and this device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 200 processor that beats at 1.2GHz.
Memory is rather limited at just 512MB, though the 4GB internal storage can be expanded via the included microSD card slot that takes up cards up to 32GB in capacity.
The hardware, unfortunately, doesn’t match the €149 price of the device, which translates to $161. At least not when compared to the various Lumia and other such budget Windows Phones on the market.
Moving on, the second smartphone showcased offers dual SIM support.
And although it features the same processors, the second model comes with 1G of RAM, 8GB storage, along with a 5-inch 720p display. An 8 megapixel camera on the back handles imaging duties, along with the 2 megapixel snapper on the front.
Pricing for this model is yet to be decided, but we should find out more about these two devices, and when Polaroid plans to unleash them in the European market.
